John Amdur is a native Texan and a 1998 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Business. There he met his wife, Stacey, with whom he has two daughters, Katherine and Isabella. In addition to his Bachelor of Business Administration, John also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Government from UT. After his undergraduate work, John acquired a Law Degree from SMU. His first job out of law school was as a Prosecutor in Dallas under a Republican DA.
In 2006, John and Stacey moved back home to Harris County to enter the family practice, which he now runs. The Amdur Law Firm, PLLC, practices business immigration law. The firm assists clients (which are generally multinational organizations) with creating U.S. jobs, by obtaining visas and employment authorization for foreign personnel to fill positions that support U.S. workers. John and his staff ensure regulatory compliance with DHS, DOL, and various government agencies.
Now seeking to serve as the next Representative to the U.S. House for CD-36, John is passionate about public service. He seeks to instill in Washington the strong conservative values that make our country great. High on his priorities are:
- Eliminating the overregulation and bureaucratic overgrowth that unnecessarily stifle the private sector, discourage innovation, and compromise the future of the U.S. economy. The federal government is simply too big!
- Defending conservative values from the constant attacks by liberals, bureaucrats who would trample our rights, and politicians who claim to be conservative but are much more concerned about serving their own interests than serving their constituents.
- Neutralizing bad laws such as Obamacare and Biggert-Waters, through repeal or defunding, so that the interests of District 36 residents are represented.
- Being accessible to his constituents by maintaining a way for them to contact him directly; and establishing in each community within the District a “cabinet” of locals who can continually advise him of the needs of their community.
John has a solid conservative track record as an officeholder. He is currently serving his second term on Nassau Bay City Council, is the Vice President of the Nassau Bay Economic Development Corporation, Treasurer of the Nassau Bay Redevelopment Authority, Treasurer of the Nassau Bay TIRZ 1 Board, serves on the Nassau Bay Biggert-Waters Task Force, represents Nassau Bay on the Houston-Galveston Area Council General Assembly, and has been a member of the Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department since 2006.
John has long ties with the Republican Party. In addition to having voted for conservative candidates since the age of eighteen, he has volunteered on numerous campaigns for Republican candidates and office holders. He attended Republican functions while in college and law school, was a member of the Dallas County Young Republicans after, and has been a delegate to Republican conventions.
